Lifecycle of a Helmet below:
Helmets sure look tough and durable, but you need to handle them with care. They also need to be replaced periodically. Use these tips.
If a helmet has not been damaged, it needs to be replaced every 3-5 years take into consideration how much it has been used. As time goes on UV rays, adhesive and component aging will damage the helmet. It becomes a safety risk as its protective qualities deteriorate.
If a helmet has been dropped or had an impact, it needs to be replaced fast. Keep in mind that a helmet is only designed for ONE impact, even a small one counts. An impact may fracture the outer shell or compress the liner which absorbs the impact. This damage may not be readily visible.
Never use, expose or store helmets around insect repellent, gasoline, cleaning fluids, exhaust fumes or excessive heat. These factors can result in the degradation of helmet materials and protective components though the damage may not be visible.
