Want your suspension to improve your rides’ performance and quality?
You remember the past when suspension was stiff and it gave the tires closer contact with the road, uneven places and corners. So, your ride felt bumpy.
Now, think about the comfort suspensions. They will cushion the blows and your ride will be in the lap of luxury, but the handling will be softer.
There have been great advances in Harley-Davidson® suspension with the premium suspension technology. It will give you more damping control and better comfort.
What you need to know about Suspension Operation:
Suspension is a two part system. The two parts are springs and dampers.
Here are the functions of each one.
Springs:
Most of the “heavy lifting” is done by the springs. They support your weight and the weight of the motorcycle. Springs compress so they absorb bumps and cracks in the road. Springs extend to let your tire keep contact with the road during a bump or dips in the road.
A stiffer spring extends better to give you improved traction but it also transfers some of the force back to the rider when it compresses.
Rear springs performance’s key element is having the correct preload or sag for the vehicle.
The way the preload setting comes about is based on rider, passenger and cargo weights.
Here is what happens, if you only have springs as your suspension system. Springs will continue to compress and release (rebound) well after a bump or dip has been passed.
For example, have you ever noticed a car bouncing up and down as it rolls down the street?
There is a good chance that it is riding on springs alone and does not have functioning shocks or dampers.
Dampers:
The job of dampers is regulating (damping), the speed at which the springs compress and rebound. It keeps them from oscillating vertically.
Where does the quality of your ride come from?
It happens from the resulting forces of the springs and dampers working together.
No two roads are the same, so how these two systems react to the road creates what the rider and passenger feel.
Note: Your choice of a suspension system can affect fit. We are talking about ride height.
Shorter springs and shocks will lower the bike overall. You get a slammed look to benefit a shorter rider.
Harley-Davidson® offers a two-part system that can give you, both ride comfort and high performance without any compromise.
Want to have a confident and comfortable ride regardless of the pavement conditions?
You can have this with Harley-Davidson® Premium Ride Emulsion Shocks.
Premium Ride Emulsion Shocks are fast-acting, mono-tube nitrogen gas-charged shocks.
Here are the advantages:
-Enhanced compression and rebound damping control when compared to typical twin-tube shock absorbers
-Nitrogen gas-charged shocks resist oil aeration and work with the internal valve stack to provide superior damping control in the twisties.
-Large 36mm pistons and low-viscosity, high-performance oil allow these shocks to react quickly to road impacts and keep the tires tracking the road surface.
-This provides a controlled ride and minimizes bottoming harshness that is transmitted through the frame
-Locking threaded adjustment allows fine tuning of the spring preload to current riding conditions
-Urethane bumpers provide a softer feel if the shock bottoms under load
-These beautifully finished shocks feature black-anodized billet top caps and black progressively wound springs
-The kit includes left and right shocks and a preload adjustment spanner wrench
PREMIUM RIDE SINGLE CARTRIDGE FORK KIT
This single-sided cartridge fork provides improved handling performance by keeping the tire in contact with the road surface.
It is tuned to work in concert with the Premium Ride Emulsion Rear Shocks
Here are the benefits:
-Fork damping is controlled by a specifically calibrated piston and valve stack. Unlike typical orifice damping, the piston/valve system helps the cartridge fork achieve a linear damping force curve for a consistent feel throughout the compression and extension of the front suspension
-The cartridge allows forks to react quickly to rough roads, inspiring rider confidence
-The compression piston provides excellent low-speed damping for a better rider feel, and the rebound spring provides a smoother feel during topping
-The cartridge fork resists bottoming and dive, and the triple-rate spring and oil lock allows the forks to absorb bumps even under hard braking, giving the rider more damping control while resisting wheel hop.
-This fork kit is a great addition during the installation of chrome or gloss black lower fork sliders. The kit includes the fork pipe, cartridge, fork bolts, main springs and oil seals.
Note: Harley-Davidson® suspension products are developed as a system. The front and rear suspension is designed and tuned as a package. You, can choose to run just a front or rear suspension upgrade, but the full benefit will be achieved by installing the complete system. The preload adjustment has a much wider range than Original Equipment shocks
and also has a very fine tuning range – you can adjust in 10-pound increments, as opposed to 30-40 pounds at a time.
Have a wonderful day.
